Good morning!
I should be finishing up module 2 within the next few weeks and was curious to know when I should be joining AAPC and AHIMA? Do I do that now? Do I wait until it is test taking time?
Thanks!
Andrea
Andrea, I joined AAPC about midway through Module III, timed it that way so I could buy their on-line practice tests and also so I could reserve a seat for testing. Ended up not taking the test yet because their test and practice tests are still geared to ICD-9 and I have been studying in ICD-10. So they cancelled my seat, kept the $ that I paid for the test, and will apply it to the 2016 test once it is up and ready, and also once a testing center opens up nearby, Jacksonville, FL.
They send a lot of e-mail ads but also some information about medical issues or coding issues to be faced, a lot of which is related to the change from ICD-9 to ICD-10.

Awesome Donna, thank you very much!
Good luck when you test!

I am 3/4 of the way through Module II and I am wondering about this also. Will the school tell us when it is a good time to join the AAPC and AHIMA? Or is this something we just decide on our own? It seems like a lot of students take the CPC after Module III, is that correct? Does the school tell us when it's time to start looking for testing? I'm just confused about the timeline of things. So when is a good time to join these groups? Thanks!
Yes, there will actually be an assignment about halfway through Module III that instructs you on joining AAPC. A few sections later, it tells you to schedule your CPC exam. I plan to follow the suggestions outlined by the school. I don't know enough about the industry to make those types of decisions on my own so I'm really glad that our school is so helpful with this type of thing...or I'd be lost!
That sounds great, thanks for the information !
