What distracts me the most right now is that my house is under renovation so I have to keep moving around. We also have grown kids that like to come and hang out on the weekends sometimes. This doesn't help with the focus either. I love having them here and it's even better when all the grandkids are here as well. (It is a secret, but they are more fun than the kids. Shhhh) I also take care of my parents, sometimes it's constant and others I don't hear from them in days. I am glad that they are still with me and i will do anything to help them out anyway.
When not under construction I have a desk in my living room. This is generally the best spot, as my kids (11 & 13) have the family room in the back of our house. My issue of being distracted happens when my husband is home and is watching tv. I have BT headphones that I wear and listen to movie scores that have no words, just the music. Gladiator and Braveheart are my most favorite and I take my test to one #3 of Gladiator and I find that I can conduct as I read or code. I learned this when I was in college when I had a 5-year-old, now grown, running around at the same time. If I need to escape, I run off to my sister's house and commandeer her office or kitchen table.
I don't know why it works, it just does.
