Just sent my module I final. Love the way the final is set up, as it truly makes you evaluate your errors. Through my final, I have been able to identify 4 changes I want to make in the way I do thinks as I progress through module II. I am a perfectionist and hate making mistakes. My husband helped me with my thinking on that. He said "Jean, if you could answer every question correctly, you wouldn't need to take the course, would you?" So that is change number 5 I need to make, stop being so hard on myself!! I am excited to have proved to myself I could get through module I with working and all the other roadblocks that presented themselves along the way. When I took my MT course through Andrews, I was not working, so learning how to balance things was a big lesson for me in itself, and some of my changes for module II are related to that. I love learning. I am almost 57 and plan to never stop learning new things! I love the MT job I currently have, but coding has always intrigued me. Linda knows that, as I have been emailing her off and on for years about the coding course. :) Very glad I took the plunge this year as part of things I wanted to do in 2013.
Good Luck Jean on your journey through the courses. I am in module IV. I remember just getting my first test under my belt....Okay, whew, felt much better. Then the first module...okay, whew, felt much better. Now I just keep telling myself to keep going, keep reading, keep testing, next chapter, next question. The end is near. Sounds like we share a few things. I am 59, have a great MT job that I love, but I got my RHIT years ago and coding has always interested me. Then when ICD 10 came along I was just too curious to not jump in. So I dove. I have never worked so hard in my life, never been tortured by tests, and deadlines....but I love it and I am sooo very thankful I did begin the program and now I am in the last module. I also thought the final was a very smart way to do things. What better way to end the course than to tackle all your errors instead of trying to answer more questions. It felt good to go back and tie up the ends with that final. One of the things that really helped a lot was this board. So keep reading and posting your problems. When I would read a student's problems, it helped me prepare my life for that area of the course. They do not post text problems and answers here, more like how hard a certain part of the course was. So then I got my life cleared of all clutter when I got to that part so that I could concentrate more on it. You never know how you can help someone. I wish I would have posted a bit more. There were some students who posted who I am very thankful for.
Well smooth sailing through module II.
Yes, we do have some things in common, don't we Lana? Congratulations on getting to module IV! Must be a great feeling.
Enjoyed reading these posts!! I, too, am a 50-something, 51 to be exact, and have been an MT for over 20 years. I'm still in Module 1 due to sustaining a knee injury in March....tore the meniscus, strained the ACL, and have a microfracture to boot AND I may still need to have surgery.
Glad to see there are others in my age group taking the plunge!!
Sherry
So sorry about your knee injury, Sherry. We will have to start a 50s club!!
Congrats Sherry! I am in my late 50's, RN for 10 years, MT for 20, and have had many delays as well, but I am finally on the last module! Sorry about the knee and I hope you don't need to have surgery!
I see many of you who say you are already MTs and not finished with this course yet. I thought you had to finish an MT course before you could become a MT???? I would love work at home as an MT to bring in money while I am doing this course if possible!!!!
Or did I misunderstand? Have you already taken the MT course and are now taking the coding course? :)
We do have several MTs taking the Coding course currently. Keep in mind that the Industry-Related and Off-Topic forums are schoolwide and will have students and graduates from all of our different courses participating!
I'm in that 50s club too, ladies! I will be 51 when I graduate from the course...oh wait, at the rate I'm going I'll be 91..Kidding, but I just took my last extension and am PRAYING I don't have any more delays!! I just have to keep on keeping on...
