I had the opportunity to interview for a Coding Position. I also tested for the position, but I was not chosen for the position. I did not think I would get a chance to interview. I do not have my CPC cerififcation yet. I intend to have this certification soon. It is possible to have a chance to interview for a Coding position even without the CPC Certification. Stay positive and keep on looking for a Coding Positon! I really believe there is a Coding position out there for us.
Thanks, Renee, for the words of encouragement. I'm nowhere near applying for jobs yet but hearing that keeps me hopeful. It is quite an accomplishment to even get an interview, and with your positive attitude I bet you'll land a job soon.
Did they let you know how you did on your testing? Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know of your experience.
Best of luck on the next one. :) These are all growing experiences.
Thank you,
Paulette
Thanks for the encouragement. I was not told how I did on the testing.
We have had a few students who got coding jobs before they had taken the CPC exam and/or finished the course. It's possible.
On your resume, you may put something about CPC exam scheduled for (date).
I wonder if it would be helpful to put something like
Beginning and Intermediate Medical Coding course modules completed.
Estimated date of completion of Advanced module of Medical Coding program: (date). The "Advanced" section would be Module 4.
Just thinking out loud. That's nothing to take to the bank yet, but might be helpful in some job application situations. There are employers who will hire contingent on the applicant passing credentials exams during the next 6 months or maybe 1 year.
I was scheduled for the CPC in a month and applied for a position. I highlighted on my resume my past medical experience and passing the ICD-10 transition course. I got an interview and did well on their test and was hired, with the requirement that I had to pass the CPC within 6 months (giving me time for a retake if I failed). I passed and I am so glad I applied even though I was not yet certified. Don't give up, it can definitely be done!
