Does anyone have any tips or know of any good resources for coding Anesthesia? I feel really lost.
Don't do anything drastic like going for outside resources without checking with your instructor. Write a specific question, or as specific as you can under the circumstances and send it to your instructor. While you are waiting for the answer, go back to the guidelines. You may discover something you hadn't noticed before. That often happens.
A 'general' question to the instructor isn't as helpful as one that specifically tells her where you got lost. She can work with the specifics much better. Then, if you still don't understand the answer you get back, ask again! Each time you'll get closer to the level of understanding you need to go forward.
That's not to say that some of our talented graduates won't also have some helpful recommendations here as well, without going to outside sources, which may lead you the wrong way.
Megan, I found when I started the Anesthesia in the CPT, to just read through the whole chapter, read all the guidelines in the CPT and in our Kuehn, then go back and read again. If I did not know what a particular word meant, I would google that, but other than googling a word description, I only used the books. Sometimes the index does provide some insight as well. Hope this helps.
Hi Megan,
I too was in a very similar situation. I was reading through the books at the beginning of the module and felt completely lost. I emailed our instructors and continued to read the books again. Once I had a response from the instrutor I didn't feel like it was all me. She explained we should have some growing pains as we start CPT coding. It does eventually click- as it has for me- so hang in there!
Good luck!
Thanks you everyone!
