I just got a new vacuum cleaner, a Dyson. I'm trying to put the stupid thing together. ARRRRRRRGH!
Okay, I'm putting it aside for today. Tomorrow I'll go at it a different way. The instructions just show pictures with several of them going 'Click!' As if I can figure out how to keep the hose from falling off.
Just ignore me. This is one of those times when it seems impossible. It's such a great feeling when you accomplish it, even something simple like this is for most people, ....but I'm not there yet. Trust me......I'm really not at the celebration stage yet.
Aww. Sleep on it. Maybe in the morning the pictures will make sense. Sometimes I'm just in the wrong frame of mind to comprehend something. Good luck!
Stuart
Oh how I hate picture instructions! I know that is how some learn best, but it isn't me! Here are a couple of things that may help you:
1. Here is a YouTube video that shows the assembly process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrqkWXCFo0Y
2. Here is a link to Dyson's support page: http://www.dyson.com/support/uprights.aspx
From there you can choose your model and then select the link that says "assembling your Dyson." It not only has pictures but written instructions as well.
Thanks to both of you for the support and encouragement. I'll try those links on my lunch break. I was tempted to throw the whole thing out the window yesterday evening. Today I am trying to approach the problem as an adult. {{{POUT}}}
Today was a better day for assembling a new vacuum cleaner.
The instructions were right there in front of me all the time, in fine print, next to the unhelpful pictures, which really weren't all that unhelpful after all.
It took about 2 minutes to do what was impossible for me yesterday evening.
YAY!!!!! I feel like I have made a very major accomplishment because I didn't ask for someone to put it together for me. :) That's VERY BIG GRIN!
Lol, yay!
Well, how do you like it? Are the Dyson as great as they are hyped up to be?
Good question, Kristin.
The short answer is yes, I believe the Dyson is that good. That doesn't mean that others don't also do a very good job.
My personal conclusion is that almost all quality vacuum cleaners have reached the point where they all have powerful motors, which makes them effective, but some of them are too heavy as a result.
Recently I tried a Miele, another good brand which costs about the same. It was too heavy for me to want to use, but I'm pretty sure it cleaned at least almost as well as the Dyson. You just couldn't 'SEE' the dirt and debris without opening the compartment, so it wasn't so emotionally rewarding to lug it around. The Dyson isn't too heavy and it's so fun to look at. It looks MEAN!
I have a little 'stick' vacuum by Electro-Lux that charges, you remove the cord, and zip all over the house without having to bother with plugging in electric cords. The vacuum compartment detaches so you can clean stairs, window-sills (where ants have been coming in), and even your car. May not be as powerful, but is really handy. It's great for 'spur-of-the-moment' cleaning. That one obviously doesn't have the powerful motor that really sucks up allergens as the Dyson is supposed to do and appears to actually do very well.
The main FUN thing about the Dyson is that plastic see-through 'bin' where you can see all the dirt and debris that your Dyson sucked up. That is a selling point for me. It makes vacuuming seem more productive, because you get to see the fruits of your labor. It definitely did get dirt from my tile and hard-wood floors when I didn't think there was any dirt there.
It probably seems strange that I have so many vacuum cleaners and I'm still repairing my built-in. That's because I strongly believe that you repair the house when it needs it or else you'll soon have a house where everything is in disrepair.
The reason I have so many vacuum cleaners is that the manufacturers have sent them to me to use and give my opinion of them. They seem to think if you have a dozen, you can make better comparisons. They also must think that I like to vacuum a lot, which I don't...never will.
It's so fun getting to know you better, Linda! I appreciated all your comments on vacuum cleaners! I have really enjoyed our Kirby Sentra for quite a few years, but you're right about it being nice to have a lightweight vacuum for spur of the moment vacuuming! I also use a small hand-held version for under the table and kitchen mess clean ups, but need to replace that because it's old and gross now! Thanks for helping us to see there's more to this group than just education, business and coding! Life will always require cleaning tools!
Yay! I knew you would get it figured out. A happy face sticker for you!! Lol.
Haha, It's just like with coding. Walk away and come back and everything falls into place and "clicks together." BTW, we love our Dysons. :)
Way to go!!!
