I'm going to be starting Module 3 very soon and I was wondering if anyone that is in it or that has already been through it could give me some tips and maybe the more advanced modules too. I didn't do very well on the Kuehn Review. :/
Thank you :)
I'm doing the Kuehn 60 question test now. Module 2
I agree it's really ruff...
I am hoping to be doing it in the next couple of weeks and I am definitely not looking forward to it.
Not to derail the topic, but what is the Kuehn Review? I am getting ready to start module 2 in somewhere between ten days to two weeks.
Its the coding review test. All the coding you've studied through Mod II all the chapters in the Kuehn book. Its a tough one. Not trying to scare you but just wanted to give you a heads up. Some of the questions I did pretty well on but I really struggled with some of the case studies.
Hi Megan - Many students feel the same way that you do after the Keuhn Review. I would send an email to Glenda asking her to forward any questions or concerns to your current instructors. They are the best people to ask for tips and answers. I can tell you that the first 3 exams in Module III tend to go rather quickly, but expect to spend much more time on Exams 4 through 7. You do not want to rush through Module III or Module IV, as these modules are preparing you for your credentialing exams. Also, remember to put a complete Book List on Exams 1 through 7 as you will be using multiple books, and the instructor really needs to know the year edition in order to grade correctly. Some instructors may deduct points for not including a Book List, so I just wanted to make you aware of that also. Good luck!

I know this is an older thread, but I am just now starting to do my Kuehn review, and WOW. It sure is tough.. this is going to take me a little while to get through....
But I am just hoping I do well on it....
Here's to a passing grade!!! =/
Heather, if you have questions or find something to be really difficult, please just let me know. I would rather that you ask for help during the review exam than to struggle unnecessarily. The more frustrated you become, the more difficulty you will have.
It's important to remember that coding questions contain less information than you will have on the job. In that respect, they don't reflect real-life coding. They're just questions. Sometimes the questions will tell you exactly what you need to choose an answer. Other times, the questions won't be that clear. That's better for you because it teaches you what you need to be able to think through the coding. A lot of the questions on this review do want you to think through the coding, so they aren't really clear. That is what's going to make you a good coder.
I look forward to hearing from you very soon. :)
Peggy
My advice would be to take your time. Reread info from your books that specifically pertain to each question. Repetition is a great way to gradually learn the guidelines/rules.
This can seem tedious, but for me, it has worked overall.
Stuck on something? E-mail a question in, skip it for now and then go back to it once you have feedback. I definitely could have asked more questions earlier on.
Good luck!
Nicki
I too read the forum boards regarding the Kuehn Review Exam on a different thread, followed Nicki's advice there and asked my instructor lots of questions, (as Instructor Peggy encourages - before I got too frustrated or overwhelmed) and came out with a 95%. (By the way, thanks for posting Nicki - that was the "We can do this!!! thread. It definitely helped. Sincerely appreciate it.)
If you follow the instructions above, Heather, invest some extra time in research and review, asking your instructor those questions, the benefits you reap will be more than just a passing grade. Know you'll do well.
Thanks so much for the advice everyone! I appreciate it!
I plan on going through the whole test, answering the ones I know the best I can, and circling any I do not feel too confident about... Then going back the next day and go over the circled one again to see if something clicks (that has happened a few times with other tests in this module, sometime ya just need to step away for a minute) and then any questions I am still having trouble with, I am going to just send out one email with all the ones I am having trouble with.
So Instructor Peggy, please be on the lookout by the end of the week with my questions, probably multiple questions!!
Haha, thanks everyone! I keep looking at job postings at my current job for medical coders and I CANNOT wait to be able to apply for those jobs! :)
You're welcome Kim.
Heather - sounds like you have a plan! :-)
