I know we will be going over the terminology a lot during our studies and some of us are making flash cards to try to help remember the information. In fact we may be going over it so much that we really don't need to try to memorize it because it will become so familiar to us. With that in mind I wanted to share something I found yesterday.
I found an app that I really like. If you find yourself on break or waiting on kids or whatever you can run through a few "flash cards". The app is on the iPad/iPhone and it is called Medical Terminology Flash Cards by Simple Tree. It has medical terminology, abbreviations and systems in it. If it is missing a flash card that you need to review you can add your own. I have been having fun with my kids with it. I read the question and then we all give our guess on what we think it is. It is a fun way to study and have a bit of family time.
I just checked and this app is also available in the Google playstore for those with Android phones for $1.99 :) Thanks for the tip Lynette!
Thanks Lynette and Heidi, what a great find! I am definitely going to check this out.
Great idea, Lynette!
This sounds like a fun, effective way to 'learn' - but not waste time trying to 'memorize' the material. That's important in this course because if you try to memorize all of the terms, you won't, but all the time spent away from your REAL studies just trying to memorize everything will keep you from LEARNING the material to the point where you can USE it in your coding exercises and tests.
In your formal studies here: Understand the material as you read through it well enough so that you know where to find it when you need it. Then move on. Over time you'll understand it much better, as you continually USE it to actually CODE.
That app that you found sounds like it's helping you 'learn' more than memorize, so I like it! If you take it with you while you're waiting in lines or in doctors' offices, etc., that can be very helpful. That won't be taking any time away from your established 'formal' study schedule, so it's all good!
