I am hunting down different expander software types that are compatible with Windows 7. I have run across a few that I can pay for with a yearly subscription, or a never-ending subscription usually running above $150 (eee!). I have found a "freeware" program called WordExpander (http://www.wordexpander.net/) and it seems like it would be suitable for medical transcription.
What expander software have you tried out/like/recommend?
I no longer do transcription, but when I did, I used InstantText. I liked it a lot.
I am currently an MT (for 20 years), but currently studying coding. SH and IT are both good, but I ran into problems with the SH inconsistently expanding on my platform (Enterprise) and I switched to IT. IT initial cost is a bit higher, but in my opinion it is the best available. Also, their support if you run into any problems is excellent. SH was unable to help me resolve my issues (many other employees using SH had similar problems, none were resolved to my knowledge). Good luck!
I am also currently a MT taking the coding course. My favorite expander program is Instant Text. One of the companies I worked for used Shorthand, and I did not care for it, but maybe if I hadn't used IT first I would have liked SH better. Once you buy IT, you do not have to buy newer versions. I just bought the newest version of IT because I changed MT jobs and am now working as an independent contractor, but the new version really hadn't changed hardly at all from the version I had from 10 years ago.
I should have stated it is a one-time fee to buy IT, but I believe SH has the subscriptions one has to keep paying for.
Thank you all. I guess it looks like IT is my best bet. Thank you for your imput.
