Many coding students and even working coders will use all of the chaos surrounding ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM/PCS to throw their hands up in the air and give up. It's something many people have a habit of doing, so any excuse is good enough. It reminds me of Rudyard Kipling's poem, or at least one line from it,
"If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,"
That poem has helped me so many times in my life, along with very favorite verses from the Bible.
So, let those who are looking for an excuse to fail use all the 'noise' around us this week as their reason to panic and freeze. WE, and I mean me too, will not.
I recommend to all of us that when we hear more confusing rumors, facts, and reports of impending coding disaster, that we just take another deep breath (I think we'll need quite a few of those in the next week), and then FOCUS on the job at hand. "If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you," AND when those others choose to panic, freeze, and give up, we'll take the opportunities they've left behind. That has worked for me MANY times in my own career. It will work again this time.
Thank you so much for this wonderful example and optimism! I am continuing on and have a job interview for an entry level coding job next week!!
Good for you, Janet! Please let us know how it turns out, and all the best to you!
Beautifully put Linda.
Update, Janet got that job. :)
Hopefully it didn't take this long to get that job though! ;)
LOL, Sara. No, it didn't. She got it immediately. I'm just slow at updating. :)
