For ICD-10-CM students who will finish Module III and be on track to take the CPC exam in October, is it recommended to learn ICD-9-CM and go ahead with the exam in October or November or is it recommended to wait to take the exam in January when the ICD-10-CM is part of CPC test?
Suggestions and/or advice is greatly appreciated.
Kim, that's a great question! I was faced with the same decision less than a year ago and decided to go ahead and learn ICD-9, as it's only going to be to our advantage, and make us more marketable. It's really not that hard, especially after you've learned ICD-10, and doesn't take that much extra time. The Andrews School offers an additional module, just for those of us ICD-10 students, to learn ICD-9. I took the CPC in ICD-9 and passed...you can too! It looks like I'll also be taking the CCS in ICD-9, but having all those skills will look great on our resumes! Good luck to you!
