There is a thread on the Coding section of MTStars that I believe is well worth the time of all of our coding students and graduates. By the way, I noticed that Andrews School was also being discussed in another thread, but I kind of ignored that one because it was one of those threads that goes around in circles, accomplishing nothing. Anyone who wants to know the answers to questions about TAS (The Andrews School) can just ask me. I'll tell you everything. [Very Big Grin]
There is a brilliant and highly credentialed medical coder who posts as 'Coder' on MTStars. Her posts are almost always well worth reading. I have read posts written by 'Coder' for years. I can only guess who she is and I really don't want to know, so if you know, don't tell me. :) Seriously.
As with many truly brilliant people, sometimes the answers come across brutally frank, but I want all of you to only look at what you can learn from her messages and not the blunt way they are sometimes presented.
At any rate, I highly recommend that you go take a look at this thread and do it as if you were the poster who asked the question.
Here is the original question. Just follow Coder's responses. I believe this is one very helpful thread, and well worth your time.

I just read this very early this morning. I have read quite a bit by this person on the forum. This person knows what she is talking about. I already do what she says to do, I look up every single word. Very interesting reading.
Thanks for sharing that Linda! A good little reminder to go back to the basics we've been taught and follow every step carefully! She does seem to be very knowledgeable! I wonder if she's a certain one of your instructors! ;) If not, she'd make great instructor quality at TAS, right?! :)
Thank you, I did find it pretty helpful.
I have been reading Coder's postings on MTStars for at least a couple years now. I always enjoy them and sometimes I even reply. When I feel overwhelmed or discouraged, I reread some of her posts for encouragement. When I feel overconfident (not very often), I reread some of her posts for humility. The posts are always balanced and insightful. I credit Coder as being one of the main reasons I am an Andrews student. :-)
Actually, she's not one of our instructors. She has said in the past that she's one of our graduates, so her training is all 'Redpen-based' from years ago. She also has said that she doesn't work for us. I love a good mystery! Whoever she is, I like her. She's smart....REALLY smart.
I never knew this forum existed! I am hooked now! LOL. Thanks, Linda. This is going to become one of my at least weekly reads now! :)
I can see what you mean about "coder", but whoever it is seems very knowledgeable!
I read the post in question (and then several others) by Coder. I like her! Her manner of speaking is very much like RedPen. It's been years since I participated there, and I see there is still plenty of drama and negativity. I'm glad there are posters like her to balance things.
By the way, there are archived posts on MTStars by a poster called 'Cathi,' but they are NOT mine.
When I was initially researching coding I visited MTStars so I am familiar with the forum. Maybe this is where I originally came across the mention of Andrews? It was in a forum-based website.
I will also say that I am still sticking to the basics taught back in Module I and II (now in Module III). I am taking my time to look up the rules and the examples in the instructional texts and code books, and it's definitely working for me. I am not moving as quickly as some, but this is what is working for me.
