So this past week I completely and utterly failed my exam, it is the worst I have ever done. As probably many of you are, I'm in Mod III section 12 exam 6. I was doing well up until this point, and then it seems a brick wall kind of got in my way ha! What I have learned from this encounter is that one I was overwhelmed (and never asked for help) two instead of pushing on and really trying to figure difficult scenarios out I just gave up on myself! So after whining to my husband about all of this he reminded me that I'm not alone in this and I need to just push on and learn from my mistakes. I've had one of those weeks where so many things are not going right, but at the end of the day I've realized that I will persevere through these difficult sections and will come out a better coder and learn from all my failures. I almost think I needed this to remind me to keep on track, ask for help, and NOT give up on yourself!! I hope others are inspired and will too overcome there most difficult challenges

Hi Kathryn!
That is the first exam test I really bombed on! I got a 56% on Exam 6! Talk about disheartening. We have to remember that this is advanced stuff. I think the way we have to do an analysis of our mistakes and figure out where we went wrong, is a very good way to learn. I too do not ask enough questions. I just began Module IV. I bombed coding exam 2. (63%) So I just sent instructor Debby a whole list of questions. Poor Debby! I have a feeling that from now on I will be asking my instructor a lot more questions. We just need to push through no matter how tough it gets, learn from our mistakes and move forward. I think it would really help if we all checked in a least once a week, to encourage each other and to share our struggles.
Hi Tami, I love the idea of checking in each week to share in our struggles and encourage one another when things get tough! Our Pastor once told us that if you don't share things with others than you don't always hold yourself accountable because theres no one else to hold YOU accountable (it was a great lesson) Anyways, I wish you the best of luck in starting mod IV, I am finishing mod III as we speak and then I will be taking the CPC exam here in a few weeks. Thanks for the words of wisdom!!

Hi,
I am currently midway through Module II and doing okay. I do well on the tests but the Kuehn book is difficult to say the least. I am definitely not looking forward to the final exam in that book. I was just wondering with the clarity of 20/20 hindsight is there something you would have done differently through this process to get where you are? I must confess I haven't been asking a lot of questions. I've been a transcriptionist for 25 years so fortunately the medical aspect of this course is not a major problem for me. Any thoughts and advice you have to share would be greatly appreciated.
Diana
We can do this ladies. Exam 6 has been my worst performance to date also, but I am determined to learn from it and hopefully do better on the final test for Module III. I am scheduled to take the CPC on 9/26 - sounds like several of us are on similar schedules.
Good luck!!
Diana - I did well on the Kuehn review exam. I REALLY took my time with it and carefully went back and reread guidelines or sections of the text as they pertained to each question. As for advice looking back, I think I have done well up until this one exam. I have not rushed through the course, and I think that has been helpful for me. I don't know if you can prepare any better than the instructors are already preparing you/us? It's just that in module III, you start reading much larger fragments of medical documentation, and you need to practice, practice, practice sorting through it, understanding more complicated procedures, etc. It's a learning curve. I probably need to start asking more questions also - I like to try to figure things out for myself, but asking questions can be far more productive than spinning your wheels sometimes :-)
