I could go so many ways with the title, frustrated, thankful, old dog trying to learn new tricks...but that doesn't mattter.
I'm not one to vent, usually, because I find it moderately productive. I usually just throw things! lol Not really.
I do get frustrated, usually at myself because I don't get things right very often on the first try. Or, because they don't happen in my time frame, or the plan changes or because I have to paddle a lot harder than some people to get to the same point. But you know what, it's all good.
Everything is a learning experience and I have a lot of little bumps and bruises on my head from God throwing little rocks at me to get my attention so that I will hear Him say, "Debbie, I've got this, don't worry, don't get frustrated, just let it go and MY way will happen when it's supposed to". I am learning that to keep from having those little bumps and bruises, I have to open my eyes, my ears and my mind....and adapt.
I am by no ways a visual learner, so online learning is a huge challenge for me. I am learning as I go to find ways to incorporate writing into each section so that stuff sinks in. I have to say PTL that I think I am making progress. :))) I have started taking my coding manuals and writing down notes from each chapter as I go along with the Pathophysiology and Coding Workbook. My test scores from the first several coding exams were embarrassing because I was truly struggling. This didn't happen so much with the CPC course that I took somewhere else and I was becoming dismayed.
Things are looking up and I want to thank Linda, Glenda and especially Instructor Debby! Debby has been so helpful and I know that I have probably worried the warts off of her frog with all of the questions that I have asked and all of the redundant mistakes that I have made.
If any of you have suffered the same things and have found ways to make it easier for you, please share. Thanks for listening and I wish everyone enormous success and a blessed day!
Hi Debbie. I am about to start Module IV and am nervous, so it was nice to see your post. I also keep my coding books close at hand while reading and make notes as I go. It makes me "slow" (other folks have gone through the course faster than I have), but it does help. Something else that I do is highlight while I read. This also makes it slow, and I highlight almost everything (you're welcome Sharpie), but it keeps me focused. I can be one of those folks that has read an entire chapter while my mind was also somewhere else (Is my washing machine done yet?). The highlighting keeps me focused on what is in front of me. So for me, taking the time to absorb everything has been key.
Good luck to you!
Funny that you should mention highlighting. I highlight way too much. I admit it. I even highlight in my Bible, but I'm trying to cut down.
Years ago my husband walked by and saw all the highlighting and noticed that one verse wasn't highlighted. He said, "Was there something you disagreed with about that one?" <very big grin> That was when I started TRYING to highlight a little more selectively, but I think most people do a much better job at it than I do.
